Yes, every match begins with a mandatory safety briefing. We'll cover the range rules, stage procedures, and the four fundamental rules of firearm safety. New shooters get additional one-on-one instruction before the match starts.

At minimum you need: a reliable pistol in 9mm or larger, a quality OWB holster (Kydex recommended), a sturdy gun belt, 3+ magazines, magazine pouches, eye protection, and ear protection (electronic ear pro recommended). Most new shooters start in Production or Carry Optics division.

Popular starter guns include the CZ Shadow 2, Walther PDP, Sig P320, Glock 34, and Smith & Wesson M&P. Any reliable 9mm or larger semi-auto pistol will work. Don't overthink it — come shoot what you have and upgrade later if you want to.

You need an outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster that covers the trigger guard and retains the gun securely. It must be worn on your strong-side hip. Kydex holsters from companies like Blade-Tech, Safariland, or Red Hill Tactical are popular choices. SERPA holsters and inside-the-waistband holsters are not allowed.
